Educational management and leadership
The Master's Degree Program in Educational Leadership (MPEL) is a full-time on-campus 2 year program of 120 ECTS credits providing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in the complex field of educational management and leadership in different settings. The program is based on the proven Finnish experience in education and is adapted to the global customers and customized to their needs in multicultural settings. The program is fully accredited leading to an official academic postgraduate master's degree and providing the option to continue to a PhD program.
Master of Educational Management and Leadership (MEd) is an eLearning version of the on-campus Master's Degree Program to be utilized online in the internet. It covers the coursework of the master's program but not the academic thesis, leading to a MEd diploma. The MEd program is suitable for educational managers and leaders who have some supervisory experience. It is also intended to experienced teachers who wish to proceed to managerial or leadership positions in education. A prerequisite is a Bachelor's Degree. It is recommended that the applicant has at least three years of work experience.
After completing the MEd program, you can continue to the Master's Degree Program with a fully credited coursework.

Expertise of the Institute of Educational Leadership
The Institute of Educational Leadership has been at the forefront of developing research and university-based training in educational administration and leadership in Finland since 1999. Today, the Institute offers the whole range of university-level education in educational leadership; from preparation for principals to an advanced leadership programme for senior principals. The Institute also convenes doctoral programmes and participates in extensive international cooperation in research and training.
The Ministry of Education has awarded the University of Jyväskylä the status of high quality adult education twice, for 2004-2006 and for the second three year period 2007-2009. The criteria for this nomination included a university orientation in education, high quality, a multidisciplinary approach in education, and the development of adult education pedagogy.
